Character Name: Chibiterasu
Series: Okami/Okamiden
Gender: Male
Age: Less than a year
Species: Chibiterasu is a baby god in the form of a wolf puppy. Without his powers he is for all intents and purposes a wolf puppy.
Appearance: Chibi is a white puppy with tufts of fur shaped like calligraphy brushes coming up from each shoulder. His tail is puffy and has a pointed, black tip, its shape again mimicking that of a calligraphy brush. He also has crimson markings visible on his fur around and under his eyes, and a circular red mark on his forehead with points extending down towards his nose and up towards the back of his head. Other red markings extend from his shoulders halfway down his sides. In his home world, only those with certain spiritual abilities or spirits can see the red markings on his fur; other people simply see him as a white puppy.
Personality: Chibiterasu is a bright and eager person who lives to help others. Whatever problem someone has, whether it's needing a pole to dry their laundry or needing someone to save their theater from demons, Chibiterasu is always ready to lend a hand. He isn't inclined to be impressed by people who are impressed with themselves; he yawns pointedly and looks away when Kagu and Kurow are busy talking about how awesome they are. Despite this, he gives the people he meets the benefit of the doubt and will help them out regardless of his impression of them. Everyone is a potential friend, and everyone is important. Chibiterasu tends to let his need to help people sidetrack him from a certain task; he may get distracted from helping one person in order to help another, but he doesn't forget anyone he's agreed to help. Chibi would be willing and happy to sacrifice himself to save others. While this should be a positive trait, it means that Chibiterasu will go above and beyond the call to protect others, regardless of the cost to him. This can, however, shade into a flaw when he refuses to stop protecting someone, desipte their protests.
Chibiterasu tends to leap before he looks, heading into situations regardless of the situation or danger that he might be going into. His impulsiveness can get him into trouble if he gets into a situation that's more intense than he thought it would be. Chibi's main fear is being unable to help or save people around him, especially his friends. The most traumatic moment of his life was when his friend Kurow sacrificed his life to save everyone else. That event is burned into Chibi's memory, and he has determined that he can't let something like that happen again. If something similar were to happen, Chibi would be shattered, at least for a while.
History: Chibiterasu ventured down from heaven nine months after his mother Amaterasu returned there following her battle to save Nippon. Demons had started appearing in Nippon again, and it was to all appearances Chibi's job to stop them. Upon Chibiterasu's arrival, he met up with Issun, Amaterasu's old friend, who began guiding him in the use of his divine powers. Chibiterasu emerged in Yakushi Village, a new settlement in Nippon, and took it upon himself to help the town grow by informing people of the settlement and its advantages.
Chibiterasu left Yakushi and ventured to Kamiki Village, where he learned of his purpose from the spirit of the guardian sapling, and began to learn additional powers from the children of the other brush gods. He made a friend in the son of the hero Susano, Kuni, and when a curse came over the town Chibiterasu and Kuni found a way together to lift it from the residents. Chibiterasu and Kuni would go on to rescue the nearby area of Hana Valley from a curse laid upon it, before moving on to the Agata Forest.
In Agata Forest, Chibiterasu and Kuni encountered a mermaid who seemed to know Chibi, despite his not remembering her. They explored the area, mystified by the fact that the formerly dry forest had been flooded. Acting upon a prediction by the fortuneteller Madam Fawn, Chibi and Kuni jumped through a portal that took them to a Demon Market, where demons bought and sold strange wares. Chibi and Kuni donned disguises so that the demons would not recognize them, then moved on to explore. They came upon a competition in progress for posessession of the mermaid that they had seen earlier, and entered in order to save her from being eaten by the demons. Upon winning, Chibi and Kuni went to retrieve the mermaid, but she refused to go with them, as humans were the ones who had gotten her into the mess she was in. Upon losing their disguises, Chibi, Kuni, and the mermaid, named Nanami, escaped together.
Upon reaching the surface, Kuni was kidnapped by a giant catfish, the same monster that had captured Nanami. Nanami and Chibiterasu worked together to rescue Kuni and recovered the treasures that Nanami had lost, which had likewise conveniently been stolen by the catfish. With its last energy, the catfish tried to kill Chibi and Kuni, and the two friends were separated. Nanami saved Chibiterasu and left him on the shore after reassuring him that Kuni was alive out there, somewhere.
Chibiterasu went on a quest to find his friend, traveling around the Ryoshima Coast to the metropolis of Sei An city, lifting curses and assisting people on the way. In the city, Chibi encountered the child actress Kagu. She press-ganged him into helping her hurry to the theather, but upon arriving discovered that the theater had been taken over by demons. Chibi and Kagu worked together to draw out the demons and fought them together, in the process revealing that Kagu had great spiritual power as a medium.
Chibi left Kagu to pursue her training in spiritual power at the temple, and on his way out of the city encountered a blond boy who went by the name of Kurow. Despite his general disinterest in Kurow personally, when Kurow volunteered the both of them to help a woman who had been working at an excavation outside town, Chibi was more than willing to join in. Before leaving town, a King Fury attacked the people of Sei An City, and during Kagu's attempt to fight the demon, she was defeated and kidnapped. Chibi and Kurow's journey to the excavation took on a new purpose: not just to rescue the head of the excavation, but also to rescue Kagu.
During their trip through the ruins, Chibi and Kurow ran into increasing numbers of signs that Kurow was in some way related to King Fury, the demon-infused entity who had kidnapped Kagu and attacked the city. They also ran into Issun again, who was searching the ruins for his own purposes. In order to progress through the ruins to the end, Kurow and Chibi returned to the Agata Forest and up to the Thundercloud in the sky, to gather abilities and to power the machines within the ruins. In the end, Chibi defeated King Fury with Kurow and Kagu's help.
While Kurow, Kagu, and Chibi celebrated the victory, a new entity named Akuro arrived and informed them that in defeating the enemies set in front of him, Chibiterasu had allowed for Akuro's resurrection and doomed Nippon. Akuro then heads off to find Orochi, who had been defeated some time in the past.
With the help of an inventor, Kurow and Chibiterasu manage to travel nine months into the past. They realize they must find an object known as the Knowing Jewel in order to find out what exactly Akuro is doing. In order to find the jewel, they contact Otohime, the queen of the ocean, who Chibi assists in becoming the water dragon. Because Kurow fears the water and will not enter it, Otohime tasks Nanami to work with Chibiterasu, and together the two of them locate the knowing jewel to discern Akuro's true purpose. It emerges that Akuro must bathe in Orochi's blood in order to take on a vessel of pure light, permitting him to become unbeatable. Chibi returns to Kurow on the ship known as the Goreyo, but as he arrives Otohime loses control of herself in her draconic form. The Goreyo and its crew sacrifice themselves so that Chibi and Kurow may escape to find Akuro.
Chibi and Kurow manage to prevent Akuro from bathing in Orochi's blood, but Akuro jumps through a portal to 100 years in the past. Upon their arrival in the past, a vision prompted Kurow to leave Chibi on his own, but nevertheless, Chibi proceeded on to the Moon Cave to attempt to stop Akuro. Chibiterasu found a new partner in the boy called Manpuku. Manpuku's mother had been kidnapped by the demons, and Chibi was more than willing to take the time to save the boy's mother first. Together, they progressed towards Orochi, encountering Shiranui on the way. After rescuing his mother, Manpuku left Chibiterasu, who soon met up again with Kurow and proceeded to the place where Nagi would fight Orochi. When Nagi defeated Orochi, however, Chibiterasu was distracted saving Kurow from being struck by a stone, and was unable to prevent Akuro from succeeding in his goal. Kurow flies off after Akuro, leaving Chibiterasu to flee Orochi's collapsing lair on his own. Akuro attacked both Chibiterasu and the village of Kamiki, but Chibi's grandfather Shiranui, already suffering greatly from wounds from previous battles, took the hit for everyone and gave his life so that the rest of them might survive.
Chibiterasu was joined by Shiranui's companion Ishaku. Together they traveled to back to the Moon Cave to try to find a way to follow Akuro. Chibi came face to face with Akuro, now possessing the body of Kuni, and Kurow, who had thrown in his lot with Akuro. Chibi followed Akuro into the Dark Realm, determined to save both of his friends. He faced his previous enemies once again, his old allies coming to his aid throughout the battles, before finally coming upon Kurow and Akuro. Chibiterasu fought his former friend Kurow and won, and wrested Kuni's body from Akuro's possession. After fighting Akuro in a form that mirrored his own, Chibiterasu emerged victorious again, but Akuro seemed to have unflagging energy. Kurow then offered his own body to Akuro as a vessel, and upon Akuro's entering his body, Kurow revealed that he was a doll, created to contain Akuro so that Akuro might be killed at the cost of Kurow's life. Chibiterasu, with Kuni's help, tearfully struck Kurow and Akuro down together.
After Akuro's presence faded, Chibiterasu had to say his goodbyes. He watched Kuni take his leave of his parents, and then encountered Issun once again. Issun's travels throughout the game had been in the effort to make a spaceship that might take him to the heavens to meet Amaterasu again, and Chibi left with Issun to return to the Celestial Plain.
Extra notes: Chibiterasu is a silent character. Except for barking.
Cambot post sample: [Hey, it's a puppy! And the puppy is bouncing back and forth and barking, clearly trying to communicate something to the people watching their Cambots. The puppy bounces around in a circle, then bounds down the hallway, leaving Cambot to chase it down the halls.]
[Eventually, Chibi's destination becomes clear; he runs into the kitchen and pauses by the food machine. He looks up at Cambot meaningfully, then stands on his hind feet and rests his paws against the machine, making it clear that he is too short to work the machine. Chibi sits back down, wags his tail, and barks at Cambot again. If the puppy could talk, he might explain his concerns about OSHA compliance and puppies being able to operate machinery, but as it is, sitting and tailwagging will have to do.]
Third-person log sample: The walls in the room he was living in were just too stark. Part of it was that they weren't the mats that he was used to, but part of it was that there was really only the poster, and it just seemed silly to leave them like that. Chibiterasu managed to locate decent paper and ink, and got to work creating his own decorations. They were perhaps not the best - not as good as Amaterasu's, that's for sure - but he was pretty happy with them anyway.
The pictures that he worked on first first were the ones of his friends, Kurow and Kuni, Nanami and Kagu, Manpuku and Ishaku and Issun. Then there were pictures of his mother and Waka, of the Celestial Realm and the places he'd been. Chibiterasu stopped to look at them briefly. He'd probably need help putting them up, though, and that would take a little more dexterity than his paws could muster. He picked one paw up and examined it. Nope, no opposable thumb had appeared.
Chibi pondered the problem for a moment. Someone on the ship had to know how to put up posters...that was it! Chibi bent over his picture of Sei An City, carefully sketching out the theater. Pinkie Pie would know how to put posters up. She put stuff up all the time for her parties. He nodded to himself; he could ask her once he was done.
Riff sample: Chibiterasu is a mute protagonist.
